FOUNDER AND DESIGNER

FEELINGS

I am influenced by time. The way it connects and separates. The way it plays no favorites. The way it rushes you and makes you wait. And whether I am utilizing it well.

I am obsessed with facts. Information. Details. Process. Logic. How things are designed and made. Why they function. Yet —

I am moved by mythology and fairytales. The stories we tell each other to elevate the human experience and embolden ourselves. Or to explain things we don’t understand fully.

I like to connect dots. Not so much the literal ones — but the dots that represent disparate things, ideas, feelings, characteristics, positions, textures and colors.

I am private and protective. I wear armor. But I also want to share and connect. And then hide. But be known somehow.

FACTS

My name is Gina Love. I am the daughter of an artist and an engineer.

I am Jamaican and American. I grew up in small towns dreaming of big cities.

I went to law school. All the while wondering whether I should have gone to design school.

I moved to New York to practice real estate at a large national law firm and, after a number of years, I joined an even larger international law firm. I enjoyed the work and I liked the idea that I was involved in the quintessence of the city — it’s skyline. But —

I loved taking night and weekend classes at the International Center of Photography and Parsons School of Design.

I bought a camera and, during free weekends, I photographed the city, her people and architecture, which I documented in a photography blog called The Photodiarist. Not long after that —

I created Peryton.

If law firm life moved quickly and often without respite, then Peryton came to life in slow motion. While practicing law full-time, I designed, sketched, constructed, edited, tested, organized, researched, net-worked, sourced and problem-solved over a period of five years before launching the brand. Which made me realize that —

I do not have to choose sides. Be it problem solving over poetry. Or art over functional design. Critical thinking over storytelling. Or meticulous planning over going where the wind blows. Eventually, I found a way to use it all. To connect the dots that represent my multiple facets, passions and interests.

The result is peryton.com, a new American luxury brand.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CARE

The leather care recommendations below are meant to guide your care of your handbag; however, for the best care of your PERYTON handbag, we strongly suggest that you visit a leather cleaning specialist for periodic cleaning and general upkeep.
CLEANING AND CONDITIONING.
Avoid contact between the leather of your handbag and clothing that is not color fast as the color of your clothing may discolor the leather of your handbag. Do not use household chemicals or alcohol to clean or condition your handbag as they may scratch, abrade or dry the leather. Avoid leather polishes as they distort color. Gently buff with a soft, dry cloth as this will remove most loose residue and buildup. Leather conditioners restore moisture to most types of leather; however, if your handbag is made of exotic leather, including python, alligator, crocodile or ostrich, we recommend having it cleaned professionally. If you choose to use a leather conditioner, please consult a leather care specialist in choosing the correct leather conditioner for your handbag. Before using any product on your handbag, including leather conditioner, test the product on a small area that is out of view to ensure that it doesn't adversely affect the quality of the leather. Once you have tested the leather conditioner that you have chosen to your satisfaction, using circular strokes, work the leather conditioner into the leather and then let air dry for 30 minutes. Wipe after 30 minutes to remove all excess residue.
STORAGE.
Avoid exposing your handbag to direct sunlight as almost as much as possible. Never store your handbag in a plastic bag. Leather needs to breathe and plastic prevents air from getting to the skin. If you do not plan to use your handbag for an extended amount of time, store it in the cotton bag provided.
NATURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF LEATHER.
Please note that marks, tonal changes and/or textural variances on all of our leather goods should not be seen as defects. Rather, they are characteristics of the very high quality of the natural leather and the tanning process. Nuances and natural variation in the skin are expected details of leather.
